– From the Founder Andrew Corbley…
Throughout my efforts and those of a few additional writers over the years to make World at Large part of a select group of independent news sources relied upon by readers around the world, I’m proud to say the quality of the product improved immeasurably in both depth and breadth of insight.
WaL has experienced several brushes with something that in this complicated age of media could be called success, but after more than 1,000 stories over six-and-a-half years, it has not resonated with readers sufficiently to carve out a place in the market for information. It has accumulated a large funding deficit, and must as a necessity cease publishing.
I haven’t the faintest idea whether the outlet has managed to build a following of any kind. Analytics suggests to us that it has become far more like a piece of flotsam tossed around at sea rather than a fixed island in that storm. Growth in readership and reader engagement has never remained sustained for any length of time, and preparing a thorough examination on the day’s crucial issues in economics, spacefaring, war, and other topics was wasted week-after-week on a readership whose day-to-day average site visitation lasts less than 10 seconds.
Faced with financial pressures, familial commitments, and other claims on our time, from today forward, WaL will cease publishing new material. Further content similar to our news may come to be found on another platform, such as Substack, but for the moment, it’s straightforwardly time to say goodbye, and thank you for reading.
Andy.
