At just day 12 of the US-Israeli war against the Islamic Republic of Iran, there have been 4 violent incidents that could be classified as blowback terrorist attacks against American citizens in the country and around the world.

Not all can be said yet to be directly related to Washington’s attack on Iran, but the timing makes it a compelling explanation. At least one attack, which left 3 dead and 14 injured at a bar in Austin, Texas, seems to be directly related, as an investigation to the shooter’s home found Iranian flags and pictures of Iranian leaders. The shooting took place the weekend that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was assassinated along with most of his extended family by US-Israeli surprise bombing that also included the bombing of a school that killed 165 children.

CBS News reported that the shooter, a naturalized American citizen from Senegal, was wearing a t-shirt with the words “Property of Allah” on it. Senegal is a largely Muslim nation.

Days later, two teenagers, 18-year-old Emir Balat and 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi, were arrested during an attempted bombing of the Gracie Mansion which houses the mayor of New York City and his family. Holding homemade bombs, they were tackled in an attempt to detonate them while an anti-Islam protest was taking place outside the Mansion. The bombs were glass bottles filled with shrapnel-media, such as nails, and triacetone triperoxide, a highly unstable homemade explosive compound that’s been used in other IED attacks. The first bomb was lit, thrown, but fortunately extinguished itself after striking a road barrier.

Media reports claim that while speaking with police, the two men said they had hoped for their attack to be more deadly than the Boston Marathon Bombing which killed 3 and injured hundreds. In a court appearance, Mr. Balat requested a piece of paper and wrote on it that he pledges allegiance to the Islamic State and called for death of nonbelievers or infidels, according to the criminal complaint obtained by the BBC.

Assassinated Iranian General Qassim Soleimani led Iranian troops and Iraqi militias in a ground war against the Islamic State, which was made up of extremist elements of Sunni Islam. Iran and Iraq are predominantly Shi’ite. General Soleimani received air support from the United States. Al Jazeera has reported that there’s been a surge in anti-Islamic rhetoric among American right-wing supporters since the start of the war on Iran.

On March 8th, an explosion occurred outside the American embassy in Norway’s capital of Oslo.

“Given the current security situation, it is natural to consider whether this was a targeted attack on the American Embassy,” police spokesperson Frode Larsen said at a news conference. “However, we have not committed to any single hypothesis”.

“One of our hypotheses is that this is terrorism, but we are also exploring other options,” Larsen later told public broadcaster NRK, according to Reuters.

Currently no suspects have been identified, and the police are conducting a thorough investigation of the bombing which took place at 1:03 a.m., and damaged the entrance portal but didn’t result in a fire or injuries. Photographs published by the police show a suspect in front of the embassy, but the force said that they haven’t led to an identification or potential suspect.

On Tuesday, March 10th, during the early morning hours, shots were fired at the US consulate building in Toronto, Canada.

Bullets impacted the glass, but it’s unclear if they had penetrated it. No suspects have been identified and an investigation is underway.

The incident came on the same day that Iran lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council after Israel bombed the Ramada Hotel in Beirut and killed four Iranian diplomats who had been registered in the country for meetings with the Lebanese ministry of foreign affairs. That bombing had occurred on March 8th.

At the moment, despite one of the most powerful and holy figures in Shi’ite Islam being assassinated by Americans and their Israeli allies, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Foreign Ministry’s rhetoric has been largest secular, with talk of exercising the nation’s right to self-defense, and defending a homeland against an aggressive illegal attack. Rather than the pantomime “Great Satan,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been referring to his country’s American opponents as “pedophiles,” and “the Epstein class,” referring to the Trump Administration’s ties to convicted serial pedophile Jeffery Epstein.

However, experts fear that if a Shi’ite religious component should enter the war rhetoric, the threat of terrorist attacks against Americans would likely increase beyond anything seen during the Global War on Terror following 9/11, when the US was mostly hunting Sunni terrorists. WaL
